"It is great to see Angie recognized on a national level for the passion and energy she brings to heart failure nursing," said Joyce Walz, RN, Executive Director Cardiac Services at Lutheran. "Angie is key to our heart failure program including the opening of a unique 24-bed dedicated heart failure unit as well as numerous other projects that positively impact those living with heart failure."

"While working with Angie on national initiatives at the Colloquium you get to know the person," said Joe Vesco, EVP at the Colloquium. "Angie is an ideal role model for nursing, a rare combination of competency with motivation and will to make a difference in healthcare."

Heart failure nurses across America provide care for countless individuals afflicted with heart failure. Today's heart failure nurse is required to be highly technically proficient in a wide range of diagnostic and treatment areas. Heart failure nurses also continue the nursing tradition of caring in a compassionate way as the founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale, who also brought scientific rigor to nursing as a statistician while preserving her caring touch.

The Colloquium's National Heart Failure Nurse Recognition Committee considers the following five areas of nursing practice when reviewing nominations:

  • Strength of the overall story
  • Relationship to patient and family
  • Evidenced based practice
  • Professionalism
  • Patient Safety

"Angie is a humble servant leader with the unique ability to inspire other nurses to follow their passion to serve our patients," added Joyce Walz, "It's a privilege to work with her."

Lutheran Hospital of Indiana was the eighth Colloquium Accredited Heart Failure Institutes® in the US and has remained continuously accredited since 2009. http://www.lutheranhospital.com/interior.php?t=266
