'Poetry From The Heart By An Alzheimer's Caregiver': Touching New Poetry Collection Explores Devastating Emotional Experience

WEST CHESTER, Ohio, Oct. 24, 2008 — With grace and a heart, Carolyn A. Haynali presents "Poetry From The Heart By An Alzheimer's Caregiver" (published by AuthorHouse – http://www.authorhouse.com), the new collection of poems for family caregivers of Alzheimer's patients.

Haynali, founder of the Internet support group Caregivers Army Organization, at , and advocate for Alzheimer's and caregivers all over the world, has fought to generate federal support for Alzheimer's research and to create a support system for caregivers through the release of her book "Poetry From The Heart By An Alzheimer's Caregiver."

The National Institute of Health has cited evidence indicating that the numbers of those age 65 or older with Alzheimer's will increase to 5.1 million in 2010. Those numbers will continue to increase unless ways to delay or prevent the disease are developed.

Knowing personally the realities of Alzheimer's, Haynali writes to assure others that they are not alone, to impress upon others that the onset of the disease can happen to anyone at any time, and to persuade readers to educate themselves now and join the movement to find a cure.

"Poetry From The Heart By An Alzheimer's Caregiver" was compiled using a daily journal that Haynali kept as she struggled through the hardship of seeing her husband fall into the depths of his illness. Haynali's poems are a testament to her unwavering commitment, love and ability to give a voice to those who can no longer speak for themselves. In "Alzheimer Patient's Prayer," she writes: "Pray for me, I was once like you/ Be kind and loving to me, that's how I would/ have treated you. Remember I was once someone's parent or spouse, I had a life and a dream for the future."

Haynali lived with and cared for her ailing husband for 10 years before he passed, and through those 10 years provided for him the best she could, despite the stress and isolation that she endured on a daily basis. However, Carolyn picked herself up and decided to create a network for caregivers that prepared them for what lay ahead and provided resources to help them on their journey. "Poetry From The Heart By An Alzheimer's Caregiver" is one of those contributions.

Carolyn A. Haynali's mission is to help other caregivers that are hurting like she was. She has written articles for newspapers and magazines, and has been interviewed on local TV and radio stations. She has also coordinated a petition for more research to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease, and presented over 20,500 signatures to the Congressional Alzheimer's Task Force in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 21, 2000. Her late husband, Chuck, and she have two children, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was the recipient of the Caregivers Award and has been inducted into the Senior Citizens Hall of Fame for the state of Ohio and her book can be found in the Ronald Reagan Memorial Library. Her poetry has appeared in many other books.
