25 Years Later: Robert Oatley Vineyards releases a GSM (Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvedre) within the Signature Series Wine Portfolio

PETALUMA, Calif., June 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — "GSM" is the Australian acronym for the country's famous red Rhone blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre.  While the blend of these iconic varieties originated in France's Southern Rhone valley, the Aussie wine industry has embraced the three-grape mix as its own and coined the term. Twenty five years ago, as the owner of Rosemount Estate, Robert Oatley was one of the original Australian GSM producers.

Mr. Oatley said of the first Rosemount GSM: "It was in the early 1990s, we knew the blend made a much more compelling and full-flavored wine than just Shiraz by itself…we were quite successful with that first release."

The new Robert Oatley GSM is from the McLaren Vale and is a blend of 60% Grenache, 40% Shiraz, and 10% Mourvedre. McLaren Vale is one of Australia's most successful growing regions for Rhone varietals. The warm, maritime-influenced climate and red-brown loamy soils produce grapes with rich dark fruit character and supple tannins.

Oatley says the "Grenache contributes juicy berry flavors and a hint of spice; the Shiraz adds blackberry, pepper and structure, and the Mourvedre rounds out the blend, contributing earthy notes and minerality."

The new GSM is part of the Robert Oatley Signature Series line. Robert Oatley GSM can be sipped now or held and enjoyed well into 2020. All Robert Oatley Signature Series wines are imported by Pacific Highway Wines & Spirits.  For more information, please visit www.Pacific-Hwy.com
