2014 'Taiwan Green Products Campaign' Debuts in Ho Chi Minh City

Showcasing Taiwan's Award-winning Brands

TAIPEI, Taiwan, Oct. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — The Taiwan Green Products Campaign, featuring award-winning brands, finally makes its debut in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Without a doubt, global warming has become a serious threat to many parts of Asia, and the effects of climate change in the region over the past few years have left a trail of death and destruction. One obvious change has been the increase in rainfall, which has not only caused severe flooding, but also taken a toll on the region's economy. Governments from around the world have acknowledged the severity of this problem and are taking steps to mitigate its impact on people's lives. In Taiwan, as well as in Vietnam, the focus has been on "Going Green," with a particular emphasis on three important actions: "reduce, reuse, and recycle."

During the Taiwan Green Products Campaign, from October 30 to Nov 2 at the AEON Mall, 40 environmentally friendly products from 13 companies are on display at the Taiwan Green Products Pavilion. These companies and products include Da Ai and Singtex (green textiles); Crosscarf, Just Power, Kenyo, and Blocky (creative LED lighting); Ming Cycle and Pacific Cycles (bicycles); Pla Studio and Chen Fong Earth System (home appliances); O'Right (personal care products); and UA Floors and Topper Sun (green building materials and solar products). Most of the companies taking part in this campaign have already received awards for their respective innovations, including the Taiwan Excellence Award, iF Product Design Award, Reddot Design Award, IDEA Award, along with other top honors.

To lighten up the mood a bit during this event, the Green Trade Project Office (GTPO) has designed a series of interesting interactive programs. The main event, however, is the online trade meetings on Oct 31st for buyers who are interested in a product on display and would like to talk with the Taiwanese supplier. Each participating buyer gets a solar LED hat designed by Da-Ai Technology Co., Ltd. The innovate products being exhibited this year are expected to attract more business opportunities.

Recent 2014 Taiwan Green Products Campaigns have been quite successful, with previous events having already been held in Surabaya, Indonesia, from May 20–24; Shanghai, China, from July 3–7; and Bangkok, Thailand, from August 1–5. Several products, such as Singtex's green textiles, which are derived from coffee dregs, and O'Right shampoo, which is 100% biodegradable and features PL materials, have already received widespread praise. In addition, Chen Fong Environment Engineering Company's industrial wastewater and sludge treatment solution, which not only helps households to recycle effortlessly but also helps to regenerate soil, and STRIDA's innovative triangular folding bike have also attracted a great deal of attention.

In recent years, Taiwan has made tremendous inroads in green-product development. In the International Institute for Management Development's 2013 report, Taiwan was ranked as the third greenest-energy nation in Asia, and the eleventh in the world. Taiwan's success in promoting green energy on the island has been partly due to the Green Energy Industry Program that was initiated in 2008. With this program in place, the total output in the green industry between 2008 and 2013 grew 160 percent to NT$416 billion (VDN291 trillion). Domestic investment in the sector has also increased to NT$274 billion (VDN192 trillion) while employment increased from 53,300 workers in 2008 to 69,300 workers in 2013, which is an increase of 30 percent. It is estimated that by 2015, output in Taiwan's green industry will reach NT$509 billion (VDN356 trillion) while employment will increase to 73,100.
