2014 Cannabis Cup Set to Be Biggest Yet, as High Times and the BIG Industry Show Join Forces in Colorado

DENVER, March 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — This year's High Times US Cannabis Cup is attracting even more excitement than usual, as the world watches the unfolding story of Colorado becoming the first US state to legalize the sale of cannabis. Sales through the three dozen licensed shops that have opened since January 1, 2014 are reported to have already topped $5 million, with $1 million being taken on New Year's Day alone.

Following the success of the past three years' Cannabis Cup events in Denver, this year's US Cannabis Cup will celebrate Colorado's decision to legalize adult, recreational use of marijuana with an event that is open to all adults. A plethora of cannabis-related items and promotional merchandise will be available for sale at the event, which traditionally celebrates all aspects of the 420 lifestyle.

Colorado is very much America's experimental state so far as the legalization process is concerned. While Washington state is set to follow suit and Alaska is planning to hold a referendum on the legalization of cannabis later this year, it is Colorado that is paving the way in regards to how the legalization process will work in practice. It is a fitting venue, then, for the US Cannabis Cup 2014, which will take place on April 19 and 20.

The Cup will feature a wide range of activities designed to both educate and entertain, including activism sessions, live music and cultivation seminars. It has attracted attention from attendees across the globe, including leading cannabis proponents and celebrity supporters.

In the spirit of mixing business with pleasure, the 2014 Cup is being delivered as part of a five-day event, in partnership with the BIG Industry Show (April 16 and 17) and the Galleria glass-blowing show (April 18).

Based at the Denver Mart, the show will combine the 420 lifestyle industry's biggest business-to-business trade show – the BIG Industry Show – with the impressive Galleria event, which will this year be opened up to members of the public for the first time.

The BIG Industry Show will see smoke shop and 420 lifestyle sector products from a vast range of exhibitors for sale to business customers, setting trends for the coming year across the industry, while Galleria will feature some of the world's most famous glass-blowing artists, exhibiting wares blown specially for the show. After three spectacular days of these shows, the Cannabis Cup will be held over the weekend, allowing for maximum attendance by members of the public.

With 30,000 delegates expected in total at the five-day event, and many tickets already sold to attendees from countries around the world, this year is expected to mark a landmark in the history of 420 lifestyle events in the US. It seems that once more the world will be watching to see the example that Colorado sets.
