World's Largest Digital Inclusion Event returns to Mexico City from April 11- April 27, 2014

Telcel's Infinitum Broadband Network will connect attendees to speeds of 100 Gigabytes per second – the fastest ever at an event of this kind

MEXICO CITY, March 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Today, Mexico's Telcel and Telmex organizers announced plans to host the largest digital inclusion event in the world, Telcel's Digital Village, which will be powered by Infinitum.  The event will take place in Mexico City's Zócalo from April 11 to 27, 2014, and will be free and open to the public. Telmex's 2013 Aldea Digital event received 154,000 visitors and was inducted into the Guinness World Records as the largest digital inclusion event in the world.

Telcel's Digital Village – Infinitum is a unique space that will offer everyone, regardless of their age, education or computer expertise, a wide variety of activities consisting of courses, workshops, conferences, contests and IT project incubation. These activities are designed to help develop skills that will provide access to more and better opportunities for academic development, employment, and quality of life.

In its 2014 edition, those attending Telcel's Digital Village – Infinitum, will be able to experience broadband Internet access on the Infinitum network with connection speeds of 100 Gigabytes per second, the highest that has been experienced at an event of this nature on a global level.

Telmex will unravel more than 125 kilometers of fiber optic cable and create an internal network across the Zócalo capital square exclusively for this event, backed by Telmex's world-class network, management centers, and more than 40,000 technicians and specialized engineers. The participants of the Digital Village will have access to more than 1,300 computers and tablets in the Village's workshops and free navigation area at no cost.

This year's educational and digital training offerings include:

  • More than 30 courses and workshops, ranging from computer basic skills to advanced programming and 3D animation.
  • Consulting workshops for small business development as well as online certification classes offered through Coursera and the Carlos Slim Foundation.
  • Lectures and conferences on how to take full advantage of services offered on mobile devices
  • Initiatives in higher education, including academic agreements made with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the availability of Khan Academy courses in Spanish.
  • Lectures by world leaders and telecommunications specialists in topics such as technological innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology for education and health, among others.
