Website Dedicated to Nonprofit Online Education Announces "Students Before Profits Award" Winners for Online Graduate Degrees in Education

Unique award ranks top online programs putting "education before the bottom line"

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Nonprofit Colleges Online (http://www.nonprofitcollegesonline.com), an online publication promoting non-profit colleges and universities offering online degree programs, has published another in its series of Students before Profits Award rankings created to recognize online colleges and universities with a track record of putting student's interests first. The award series was created to help counteract the bad publicity surrounding online education caused by the exploitative actions of several for-profit online education companies in recent years.

The award for online master's in education degree programs ranks the top fifty regionally accredited not-for-profit colleges and universities offering fully online or online/on-campus hybrid graduate programs in education at a lower-than-average cost to students. Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas was awarded the top position, with tuition set at $9,360 and a Master in Educational Leadership program that awards generous scholarships to all students admitted to the program reducing tuition to $6,000. Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas and Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska were ranked second and third, respectively.

The Students before Profits Award rankings are limited to nonprofit colleges and universities that are regionally accredited by one of the six regional accrediting bodies for colleges and schools and have lower than average tuition rates. "The prospect of attending graduate school can be extremely daunting for students, especially those living off of a teacher's salary," said Brett Gershon, lead editor of the online master's in education ranking.  "Many students are already neck deep in student debt from their undergraduate, and the idea of amassing even more debt by attending expensive graduate programs is not a decision to be taken lightly.  We hope to make the decision a little easier by highlighting a selection of quality programs that are more interested in providing a quality education than making a buck."
