SumaGrow Product Named a 2011 'Best of What's New' Grand Award Winner by Popular Science Magazine

SumaGrow's forage boost product receives a 2011 "Best of What's New" Grand Award in the Green Tech Category because of the positive environmental impact when used on forage grasses

HATTIESBURG, Miss., Nov. 17, 2011 — SumaGrow's forage boost product has been chosen as a "Best of What's New" product by Popular Science and was awarded the top honor of Grand Award winner in the Green Tech Category for its ability to increase crop yields, eliminate fertilizer dependence, reduce watering needs and improve the environment.

SumaGrow's forage boost is an agricultural soil amendment specifically formulated for forages and hay crops. The forage boosting product line contains SumaGrow, a revolutionary blend of non-genetically modified microbes, selected for their abilities to increase plant nutrient uptake, build soil organic matter and promote a balanced soil pH. SumaGrow's forage boost products have been field tested by independent PhDs, independent testing facilities and major universities in 25 separate field trials in 13 states comparing their effectiveness to conventional fertilizer on a variety of grasses in different climates and soil conditions. The results showed that crops treated with SumaGrow had higher yields, increased nutrient values and reduced water consumption than crops treated with conventional fertilizers.

SumaGrow was invented by lead researchers Dr. C.A. Reddy, an internationally known microbiologist and professor at Michigan State University, and Dr. Lalithakumari Janarthanam, a distinguished microbiologist and plant pathologist, who continues to expand the technology of SumaGrow. "It is very exciting to know that SumaGrow has the potential to make a big difference to the environment," Dr. Lalithakumar said, "SumaGrow increases the brix value (the total sugar content) of grasses. Sweet-tasting grasses speed the growth of cattle and sheep and lower greenhouse gasses."

Popular Science is the world's largest science and technology magazine and reviews thousands of products in search of the top 100 breakthrough products and technologies that represent a significant leap in their categories.
