IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 1, 2009 — The Fourth Annual Project Access "Keys to Success" Awards Dinner and silent auction, held September 26 at the Island Hotel in Newport Beach, honored community leader The Bascom Group as their 2009 Keys to Success Award Winner. Project Access, a Newport Beach-based nonprofit, is a provider of premier on-site services for families in low economic housing situations. The event, hosted by television personality Jay Mohr, brought in hundreds of thousands of donations throughout the night's live and silent auctions.

The Keys to Success Winner, The Bascom Group, is a private equity firm based in Irvine, California, specializing in value-add multifamily real estate investments. Founded in 1996 by Derek Chen, Jerry Fink, and David Kim, the company grew out of the foreclosure and job crisis of the 1990's to acquire and sell over six billion in real estate. In addition to investing millions of dollars of renovations into the properties, The Bascom Group has also created an additional "double bottom line" approach to their operations system – social good combined with profitable investments. "It is our true belief that in the end our legacy and character will not be shaped by the attractive returns delivered to investors, but more so by the community development programs that positively impact one family at a time," stated David Kim.

The company prides itself in creating value added programs and services for the community, with hopes of creating an enriching environment to enhance the family setting. In doing so, each property has strengthened ties within their community and improved relationships between local education systems, law enforcement officials and charities. Programs vary, such as sponsoring motivational speakers to schools, managing on-site job fairs, holding financial workshops, and even providing residents with ESL, tax, and life skill development classes. "As of today, we have 41 distinct community outreach branded programs reaching across our portfolio and have impacted to close to 250,000 individuals," added Kim. The Bascom Group has differentiated themselves from other owners by striving to achieve goals in all spectrums of real estate development, most importantly focusing on community and individual development as well.
