Physicians Continue Mission of Preventive Care by Deploying NanoSeptic® Self-Cleaning Surfaces

FOREST, Va., March 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Healthcare organizations now have a new tool in the fight to create cleaner healthcare facilities. As part of a community health initiative related to a $2 million research and development grant application, NanoTouch Materials agreed to provide specially priced NanoSeptic surfaces to any organization in Virginia's Tobacco Commission region.

Healthcare providers are doing everything they can to assure patients that their healthcare environment is as clean as possible. Central Virginia Family Physicians, with eight regional family practice offices and two urgent care facilities, has aggressively deployed multiple NanoSeptic products in their practices. "I remember how impressed I was when I saw NanoSeptic surfaces at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine," says Dr. Tom Eppes, past President of the Medical Society of Virginia and Chair Elect of the American Medical Association's Integrated Physician Practice Section. "I wanted our patients to be just as impressed with our practices. From the front entry doors to the reception counter to the exam rooms, we want to deliver the cleanest, healthiest patient experience possible. We are also evaluating NanoSeptic surfaces for our corporate clients to use in their own facilities as a means of delivering health and wellness beyond our offices."

New disruptive technologies like NanoSeptic surfaces are helping organizations clean for wellness rather than just for appearance. Norovirus is just one of several pathogens that can spread from contacting contaminated surfaces. These types of outbreaks are not surprising given the length of time the virus can survive on a surface. In a study conducted by North Carolina State University, two strains of Norovirus were evaluated for their ability to persist on surfaces. The results showed that both strains remained detectable on surfaces for the entire 42 day study period.

Commonwealth Oral and Facial Surgery in Richmond, VA was an early adopter of NanoSeptic surfaces in their 5 surgery facilities. "As healthcare providers, we recognize that our ability to effectively disinfect and decontaminate surfaces decreases the potential spread of infectious organisms," says Dr. Michael Miller, surgeon and past President of the Virginia Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.  "Employing the use of self-cleaning surfaces in areas that cannot be practically disinfected between every patient contact can only increase our ability to limit cross-contamination. NanoSeptic Surfaces allow us to be on the forefront of this evolving technology, keeping our eye on this changing area of 'cleaning for wellness' as the research progresses."

"When it comes to healthcare, our approach aligns with the Hippocratic Oath stating that doctors should 'first, do no harm,'" says co-founder Dennis Hackemeyer. "Since the NanoSeptic surface doesn't use chemicals, poisons or heavy metals, we aren't adding any toxins to the environment, or contributing to antimicrobial resistance."

The region will also benefit from $2 million of required matching funds which will be provided in part by new investors. Recent investors have been enthusiastic about this potential infusion of capital that won't dilute their investment. NanoTouch is also a qualified business investment, providing investors with a 50% tax credit.
