Cynthia Peterson is currently the Executive Vice President of the Broward Medical Association in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she directs and coordinates all the programs and major activities for the 1500 member physician association, including their Foundation and Political Action Committee.
Cynthia Peterson is a dedicated community leader who is involved with numerous charities and is a strong supporter of Debbie's Dream Foundation: Curing Stomach Cancer. In addition to DDF, Cynthia's community and statewide service has included her commitment to Healthy Mothers/Healthy Babies Coalition of Broward County, United Way Campaign, Leadership Broward Foundation, Broward Healthy Start Coalition, Susan B. Anthony Recovery Center, American Lung Association in of the SE, Special Olympics of Broward County, and many more. Cynthia has served and continues to serve on the Boards of several community organizations such as the Board of MediVan Health and Community Services, Susan B. Anthony Recover Center, American Lung Association, and Special Olympics of Broward County.
She has been recognized for her leadership throughout multiple organizations and received numerous honors, including: Outstanding Board Member from South Area, American Lung Association of Florida in 2006; March of Dimes Woman of Distinction in 2001; American Diabetes Valor Award in 2001; Special Recognition Award from Board County Health Department in 2000; Outstanding Health Service Leader from the Institute of Health Policy, Nova Southeastern University in 1996; 100 Outstanding Women of Broward County in 2009; Florida Healthcare Coalition (FHCC) Community Leadership Award in 2009; Guardian of Florida Award, I am Florida Foundation, Inc. in 2011; and the leadership Broward Fun Lunch Honoree in 2012.
Debbie Zelman founded DDF in 2009 after being diagnosed with Stage IV gastric cancer. Debbie's Dream Foundation seeks as its ultimate goal to bring attention and action to this important cause. The organization encourages people to spread the word about early detection and screening because if a patient is diagnosed at an early stage, the chances of being cured dramatically increase.
