Nonprofit Colleges Online Releases Best Online Doctorates in Psychology and Counseling Ranking For 2016

RALEIGH, N.C., Dec. 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Nonprofit Colleges Online, a resource promoting nonprofit colleges and universities offering online degree programs, has released its 2016 ranking of the Best Online Doctorates in Psychology and Counseling: http://www.nonprofitcollegesonline.com/rankings/best-online-doctorates-in-psychology-and-counseling-2016/

This is the second doctorate ranking in Nonprofit Colleges Online's series of rankings given the "Students Before Profits Award." The award was created to recognize colleges and universities that put education before the bottom line, particularly in the wake of much bad publicity surrounding online programs.

This Students Before Profits Award ranking lists the top 20 colleges and universities offering fully online or online/on-campus hybrid doctoral-level programs in psychology, counseling, counseling education, or related fields such as marriage and family therapy, according to their affordability. This ranking was limited to schools regionally accredited by one of the six regional accrediting bodies.

The University of West Georgia in Carrollton, Georgia occupies the first position in the ranking with the lowest estimated tuition of $11,232. The University of Louisiana-Monroe in Monroe, Louisiana, and Mount Mary University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin follow with tuitions of $23,500 and $35,200 respectively.

Other colleges and universities that made the ranking are listed below in alphabetical order:

Amridge University – Montgomery, Alabama

Chicago School of Professional Psychology – Chicago, Illinois

Eastern University – St. Davids, Pennsylvania

Fielding Graduate University – Santa Barbara, California

Keiser University – Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Lesley University – Cambridge, Massachusetts

Loyola University – Chicago, Illinois

Michigan State University – East Lansing, Michigan

Oregon State University – Corvallis, Oregon

Professional School of Psychology – Sacramento, California

Regent University – Virginia Beach, Virginia

Saybrook University – Oakland, California

Sofia University – Palo Alto, California

Touro University Worldwide – Los Alamitos, California

University of the Cumberlands – Williamsburg, Kentucky

William James College – Newton, Massachusetts

While this particular ranking includes a number of higher end tuition programs, Brett Gershon, editor at Nonprofit Colleges Online, says that "the field of psychology includes a wide variety of schools of thought and we have endeavored to represent the full range of possibilities for doctoral level online/hybrid programs of study in psychology, and related mental and relational health professions." Gershon goes on to say that because "distance education programs in these particular areas are still relatively rare, this mixed mental and relational health doctorate ranking represents a fairly comprehensive collection of online programs in these areas." This ranking will prove useful to individuals who work as practitioners in one of these professional fields and are looking to further their education while continuing to work.
