"According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, a graduate of a bachelor's program in computer science will likely have one of the most optimistic career trajectories of all recent graduates in a demographically-similar peer group," says Liz Robertson, editor at Nonprofit Colleges Online. "Computer science positions consistently list salaries at more than twice the national average, and availability is expected to increase by 25% in the next decade," Robertson reports.

Because businesses rely on the variety of skills that computer science professionals bring to organizations, new graduates will have the ability to work in numerous industries. The most popular positions for computer science graduates include software applications developer, computer systems engineer, computer systems analyst, database administrator, systems administrator, network administrator, web developer, computer programmer, and software systems developer. Due to a course load heavy in math and programming, computer science degrees are notoriously challenging and often take students more than four years to complete. Many students withdraw and redirect their academic paths, but those who pursue a computer science degree to completion will reap the benefits of this versatile career choice.
