New Executive Director of the Pacific Meso Center, Clare Cameron, Has Personal Stake in the Fight Against Mesothelioma

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 14, 2011 — The Pacific Meso Center at the Pacific Heart, Lung & Blood Institute (PHLBI) is pleased to announce that Clare Cameron has joined the Meso Center as its new executive director as of January 3, 2011. Ms. Cameron comes to the Center following 11 years as senior campaign director for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, where she started numerous fundraising events which raised millions of dollars for children's blood cancer research. After being the top-ranked fundraiser among all 68 chapters nationally, she was offered a position as the national manager for their School & Youth programs and also offered the position of being in charge of their national sponsorship program. However, Clare decided that her calling was now better directed in the field of mesothelioma and lung cancer research.

Clare brings a cosmopolitan flair to the Meso Center as she has previous experience in her hometown of Harare, Zimbabwe, and in London, England where she ran her own television production company and was the owner/manager of the London Lancers, a National Cycle League international bicycle racing team. She also is a published author (Eve Strikes Back) and winner of BBC2's "Best Social Action Documentary" of the same title.

Clare has an emotional, dedicated reason to make this move to PCM in that she saw both her parents die of lung cancer and is a lung cancer survivor herself. Clare is pleased to be in her new position of heading up PMC and working with Dr. Robert Cameron, who she initially met as her lung cancer surgeon. She strongly believes in his innovative surgical techniques, helping those afflicted with mesothelioma. It is her goal to raise awareness to help find better treatments and a cure for this dreaded disease.
