In January of 2013, Nicole was traveling in East Africa when her father was first diagnosed with stage IV stomach cancer, so it's symbolic for her to return to the region for her first mountain climb. Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the tallest freestanding mountain in the world.

Nicole's personal goal was to raise $6,600 to represent what would have been her father's 66th birthday this November. She has already exceeded her goal by raising more than $12,000, while also raising awareness about stomach cancer, the second leading cause of death among men and the fourth among women worldwide. Her fundraising efforts will benefit Debbie's Dream Foundation. "My dad always believed in me and taught me that any goal can be achieved through courage, hard work and determination," said Nicole. "I'm excited and ready for this climb in honor of my amazing Pop, who moved mountains for me and my family."

Nicole got involved with DDF in March of 2014, just months after her father's passing. She attended the Debbie's Dream Foundation 2nd Capitol Hill Advocacy Day representing the state of New York. She quickly got more and more invested in the organization and became President of the DDF New York Chapter. As the President of the New York chapter for Debbie's Dream Foundation, Nicole continues her father's fight to bring attention to stomach cancer that receives the least amount of federal research funding per cancer death of any cancer in the United States. Nicole and the team at DDF are working together making the cure for stomach cancer a reality.
