The Bascom Group Pushes with Community Outreach Initiatives Despite Unstable Market Conditions

Bascom invests into communities as others are withdrawing

IRVINE, Calif., April 6, 2010 — Despite harsh economic times and unpredictable budget cuts, The Bascom Group has managed to continue pushing resident retention and outreach efforts at their communities. Like others, The Bascom Group was put to the test in a volatile period where vacancies spiked and rents plummeted. With no immediate signs of improvement in sight, Bascom managed to steer through the chaos by investing more time and money into their communities via outreach programs, tutoring/mentoring activities, and community assistance.

With a rapid increase of skips and delinquency, resident retention became a major player in offsetting vacancy numbers. These properties sponsored programs such as financial workshops, tax assistance, tutoring and after-school mentoring, immunizations, fitness classes, free lunch programs, and religious services. "As of today, we have 41 distinct community outreach branded programs reaching across our portfolio and have impacted close to 250,000 individuals," added David Kim, Managing Partner of The Bascom Group.

Additionally, Bascom took it a step further and expanded their outreach to neighboring communities and local service centers. They sponsored guest lecturer Dr. Greg Dale to high schools across the nation, educating athletes, coaches, and parents on the importance of leadership, discipline, and mental strength. Job fairs were held at Bascom properties in hopes of rebuilding communities via employment assistance. Even at the site level, The Bascom Group has come up with new innovative ideas to implement desirable programs for employees. The Property Incentive Program was developed as an annual Bascom contest which provides for friendly competition amongst sister properties within the same management company. At the end of the year, the property with the most expenses cut and highest revenue growth is given a monetary prize package.

The Bascom Group was awarded the 2009 Project Access Keys to Success Award, highlighting their exceptional support and dedication to the community. Additionally, David Kim was most recently awarded with the 2010 Excellence in Entrepreneurship Award by the Orange County Business Journal for the implementation of these outreach programs.
