August's National Startup Pitch Competition Features Social Entrepreneurs

Dream Big America Contestants Inspired By Larger Cause

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — This month, Dream Big America (www.DreamBigAmerica.us), powered by Sprint (www.Sprint.com), is featuring startups with a social spin as part of its monthly radio pitch competition. While these startups were selected to compete based on their business models and trajectory for success, many of this month's competitors are working towards an altruistic cause.

During the first week of August's competition, ICE Medical Cards (www.icemedicalcard.com), Bright Buddy Leash (www.brightbuddyleash.com), and Blumoo (www.blumoo.com) competed for America's vote. ICE Medical Cards secured the week's highest vote count, securing them a slot in the monthly Finals Round. ICE Medical Cards, founded by Tom Force, is an emergency data retrieval system, designed for first responders and doctors to quickly and accurately obtain critical information about an accident victim.

Tom Force created ICE Medical Cards because of a personal tragedy, which spurred his passion to make a difference. "We are on an aggressive mission to protect 100,000 lives with the ICE Medical Card before the end of the year," explains Force.

This week's startup competitors include Zabalatte, Complete the Pair, and Game Time Giving.

Zabalatte (www.zabalatte.com) is an innovative milk specialty drink that incorporates the health benefits of eggs. This new drink, created by Maria Ruvio, is based on a traditional Italian family recipe.

Complete The Pair (www.completethepair.com) is a unique sales and marketing technique that is rooted in a humanitarian cause. By sending a single, shrink-wrapped shoe in the mail to a prospective costumer through Complete The Pair, sales people are able to facilitate meaningful connections when they bring the shoe's mate the "Complete The Pair," while simultaneously providing a free pair of shoes to a person in need.

Ron Ben-Zeev, the Principal of Complete The Pair explains, "We want to make a difference in people's lives. Doing well (getting our message out and generating revenue) allows us to do good."

Finally, Game Time Giving (www.gametimegiving.com) also focuses on providing value to its customers while also making a positive impact in the lives of those who need it the most. By harnessing the competitive energy of sporting events, Game Time Giving helps non-profit organizations raise money by creating a "giving competition" between fans at their favorite sporting events.

Detrick DeBurr, the founder of Game Time Giving, also echoes the importance of social entrepreneurship by explaining, "We define success in our ability to balance the 'financial impact' we make, with the 'social impact' that we make."
